Rules Overview - Armor

Benefits of Our Armor Rules
Our armor rules have several distinct features.
  • They don't oversimplify things, such as leather armor having the same value as full plate.
  • They don't overcomplicate things with several tiers of armor values.
  • They allow padded armor, which is relatively inexpensive as well as historical.
  • They permit good-looking armor using non-traditional materials like aluminum, plastic, or even foam.
Armor Tiers
There are two tiers of armor.
  • Light armor - includes padded, light leather, and foam.
  • Heavy armor - includes heavy leather, chainmail, plate, and thick plastic.
This gambeson counts as light armor

Although plastic, the breastplate still counts as heavy armor

Armor Hit Points
Valiant LARP uses a hit point system. Armor adds to hit points.

Here is how we calculate armor hit points.
  • No armor = 0 hit points
  • Light torso armor alone, or light armor on limbs = 1 points
  • Over 3/4 light armor = 2 points
  • Heavy torso armor. No or light armor in other locations = 3 points
  • Over 3/4 heavy armor = 4 points.
Helmets technically don't confer extra points, but wearing one will usually increase your hit points to the next level when there is doubt.

Ultimately, your game master will review your armor and decide on the appropriate hit points.
